  • JOB SUMMARY

    As a Tory Sport Product Development Associate, you are a critical cross-functional team member, pivotal in building aesthetically pleasing and quality authentic product while achieving financial goals.

    Coordination of the product development process is performed by:
    1. Working to meet calendar deadlines to ensure the line delivers on time for both market and production handoff.
    2. Fostering cross-functional relationships to insure the product meets aesthetic, quality, and functional requirements.
    3. Promoting the sourcing partner relationships to achieve divisional margin goals and key performance indicators.


     

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    DEVELOPMENT:

    • Compiles, maintains, and reviews all BOMs and tech packs for accuracy, completeness, quality, affordability, and compliance prior to issuance

    • Maintains accurate product records in company systems at all times

    • Makes recommendations on design enhancements, construction, and material options geared at elevating our brand and hitting financial requirements

    • Resolves with counterparts any design that does not meet Design, Merchandising, Production or financial needs

    • Understands the technical function behind performance wear to communicate directly with suppliers on design aesthetic as well as work through costing alternatives

    • Coordinates with cross functional teams to manage tech pack and BOM turnover within calendar, development status, and final handoff to production

    • Fully accountable for accuracy in bulk production

    • Responsible for being the very first counterpart to review all prototypes and market samples to insure faithful execution to tech pack

    • Schedules, tracks, and reports on all requested prototypes and salesman samples

    • Schedules and tracks all pre-production samples and top of production samples to insure exact execution of final design

    • Awards business by allocating specs to factories that are advantageous to the brand for aesthetic, price, delivery, and execution while avoiding overdependence on any resource

    • Responsible for tagging, scanning, and distributing all SMS to the appropriate teams (fit, testing, Merch, Web, PR)

    • Facilitate web sample transfers to Digital Studios at the start of each Ecomm season and continue to do so as later or corrected SMS are received

    • Organize sample reviews, communicate and note all product changes or retouching needs on Airtable for Digital Team

    • Update all docs accordingly with sample changes to keep all teams up to date

    • Coordinate shares for fit samples between PD team and digital studios and/or PR

    PRODUCT INTEGRITY:

    • Endeavors to instill quality in the product from material selection thru final production

    • Reviews all components with an eye for quality and durability

    • Insures that all components and constructions used are compliant for performance and restricted substances in development

    • Tests questionable materials and treatments in development cycle to prevent a lapse in product flow in conjunction with fabric team

    • Inspects all products for customs compliance needs prior to production

    • Maintains accurate compliance records in the event of audit by applicable authorities in PDM

    CALENDAR:

    • Manages calendar to ensure timely turnover of development, return of prototypes, and market samples and placement of final production

    • Monitors calendar daily to promote flow of development

    • Apprises and resolves calendar variances with supervisor

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Communicates style/BOM/Tech Pack changes to the factories overseas on a day to day basis

    • Tracks, receives, and logs in all fit samples and paper patterns

    • Has full ownership of assigned product categories and responsible for organizing fittings/meetings with tech design when needed

    • Takes detailed fit and design notes in each and every fitting to insure proper fit and use of fabrics and trims

    • Assists Tech Design in fit comments and spec updates based on revisions made during fitting

    • Sends out pinned samples to the appropriate factories based on what was fit and what needs to be corrected

    • Advises Tech Design in pattern correcting and sending

    • Initiates the first product knowledge overview to the copy team which provides accurate website content and material

    • Proofreads and edits the final website copy before website launch

    • Receipt and timely facilitation of all sample approval submits from all sample factories to our Tech Design and Design partners

    • Responsible for accurate and efficient distribution of all incoming packages to the appropriate design and technical designers

    • Assist in preparing daily communication to all vendors regarding the timing and action of all programs in work

    • Attend and contribute to product development and calendar meetings as needed

    • Entry of various product development details in the PDM system or tracker reports

    • Works closely with Design and Production to resolve delivery and material issues affecting production

    • Support department functions and projects as needed

    • Works on other relevant projects as required by supervisor

    EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED

    • BA/BS degree or equivalent life experience

    • Minimum 2-4 years in apparel product development and sample management
